Introduction to Motor Vehicle Headlight Testing Equipment – Principles

February 24, 2023

Motor vehicle headlight testing equipment is a device used to test the brightness and beam direction of motor vehicle headlights. It can help drivers detect and solve headlight problems in a timely manner, ensuring safe driving. Here is an introduction to the principles of motor vehicle headlight testing equipment.

Types of Motor Vehicle Headlight Testing Equipment

Motor vehicle headlight testing equipment can be divided into two types according to different testing methods: static testing equipment and dynamic testing equipment. Static testing equipment mainly tests the headlights of the vehicle when it is parked in a specific location, while dynamic testing equipment tests the headlights of the vehicle while it is driving.

Principles of Motor Vehicle Headlight Testing Equipment

The principle of motor vehicle headlight testing equipment is to control the light source and measure the brightness and beam direction of the headlights. Generally, the main components of the testing equipment include a light source, measuring instrument, and computer.

Light Source

The light source is one of the core components of motor vehicle headlight testing equipment. The light source needs to simulate the night environment and provide a certain intensity and color temperature of light. Common light sources include xenon lamps, halogen lamps, LED lamps, etc. The testing equipment simulates the headlight situation when the vehicle is driving at night by controlling the intensity and direction of the light source.

Measuring Instrument

The measuring instrument is another important component, which usually consists of photodetectors, photoamplifiers, and other equipment. The measuring instrument needs to measure the brightness and beam direction of the light source and transmit the measurement results to the computer for processing. By measuring the light emitted by the light source, the measuring instrument determines whether the brightness and beam direction of the headlights meet the regulations.

Computer

The computer is the control and processing center of the motor vehicle headlight testing equipment. The computer needs to control the light source and measuring instrument, and process the data measured by the measuring instrument. The computer usually compares the measurement results with the specified standards and provides an evaluation report. The evaluation report usually includes parameters such as the brightness and beam direction of the headlights, and whether the evaluation result meets the standards.
